‘It was not a difficult process and not something other companies should be afraid of doing’

“The accreditation process I’d say has been very smooth. It was not a difficult process and certainly not something other companies should be afraid of doing. From a marketing point of view, it’s a very useful, independent credential to what we’re doing.”

We spoke with Guy Atkins, Managing Director at Jo Bird & Co, on the company’s anniversary with the future Net Zero Standard with CBN Expert.

On the business’ understanding of its carbon footprint, he said: “We know quite a lot more than we did. I wouldn’t begin to suggest we’ve got anywhere near the bottom of it. There’s still a lot of unknowns but we have made a lot of progress.”

He explained how the Standard has helped those involved with the business grasp the necessity to tackle its carbon footprint: “It has helped with our language of discussing things with our employees to get them on board, to explain why we’re taking certain actions.

“With our customers, it’s useful that we’re in the position where we can talk to them about why we’re doing it and it does seem to be tying in with some signals from the market that this is actually something that is being taken seriously and gradually it’s being pushed down the supply chain.”

“Committing to the halving of our CO2 is a major step for us to say that’s what we’re planning to do. It may not be a straightforward process but it is a commitment that we have made.”

Jo Bird & Co were helped through this process by Balanced Energy.
