New offshore energy taskforce launched to digitise sector

A new offshore energy taskforce has been launched to modernise and digitise the sector.

It is made up of the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC), OGUK and the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) and will be run by Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.

Digital and data is at the forefront of the taskforce, as those involved look to find modern ways to decarbonise offshore energy and accelerate the deployment of hydrogen, carbon capture technologies and offshore wind.

Simon Pearson, Digital Business Leader at Energy Systems Catapult, said: “Digital and data are the biggest enablers of efforts to decarbonise the UK energy system and the offshore energy sector recognises the need to grasp the opportunity with both hands.

“The taskforce will aim to develop an offshore energy digital and data strategy with a clear set of recommendations and an action plan.

“This will facilitate greater digital collaboration, innovation and market development in offshore energy through improving data availability and transparency and help unlock new opportunities across the offshore energy sector.”
