Building materials company Kingspan Group has set new science-based targets to reduce its Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Scope 1 emissions are produced directly by the business, Scope 2 are indirect emissions from the energy procured by the business and Scope 3 covers all other indirect emissions from the company’s value or supply chain.
Validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), its new commitments include slashing its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by 2030 from 2020 levels. It has also pledged to cut its Scope 3 emissions by 42% by the same time.
The company has pledged to achieve net zero manufacturing by 2030.
Bianca Wong, Head of Sustainability at Kingspan, said: “Significantly reducing our carbon impact across our value chain by 2030 is not just business-critical, it’s planet-critical.
“Our revised science-based targets reinforce our commitment to be an industry leader on climate action and will help to drive change throughout the business at the pace required.”
