Scottish ‘energy transformation’ projects backed with £16.5m

The Scottish Government has announced it will invest £16.5 million in seven projects designed to drive energy transition in their region.

The funding was awarded to the Net Zero Technology Centre and its Net Zero Technology Transition Programme which aims to transform the North Sea energy system.

Beneficiaries include a project that will develop a low carbon alternative to natural gas to help decarbonise offshore and onshore operations.

Robotic technologies and energy hubs where gigawatt-scale low carbon hydrogen can be produced will also be backed.

Net Zero and Energy Secretary Michael Matheson said: “The Scottish Government is wholly committed to ending our contribution to climate change by 2045 and doing so in a way that ensures a just transition to net zero, making sure no-one is left behind."

Chief Executive of OGUK Deirdre Michie said: “The UK’s offshore oil and gas industry is changing and this is further recognition of its essential expertise in meeting the governments’ net zero emissions targets.”
