AMP Clean Energy partners with Croda International Plc to slash emissions

Distributed energy company AMP Clean Energy has announced a partnership with Croda
International Plc which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the company’s Hull manufacturing
site by up to two-thirds.

AMP Clean Energy will fund, develop, own and operate the 11MW biomass system at Croda’s Hull
site, which will generate 15 tonnes of steam per hour. The project is part of the speciality chemical
company’s commitment to become a net zero organisation by 2050.

The biomass project, which will supply steam for the whole site, will be fuelled by locally sourced,
sustainably managed forestry residues.

Through a 20-year energy supply agreement, Croda International Plc, which uses smart science to
create, make and sell speciality chemicals that improve lives, will reduce its reliance on fossil fuels
and benefit from low carbon heat over the long term.

Croda Hull Site Director, Justin Williams said: “Our partnership with AMP Clean Energy and will
significantly reduce the site’s greenhouse gas emissions, however, our sustainability ambition does
not end here.

We are closely following the development of other sustainable fuel sources through industrial proof
of concept and are looking forward to being able to make further changes to our site fuel sources as
these become available.”

Richard Burrell, Chief Executive at AMP Clean Energy said: “We are delighted to be supporting
Croda’s sustainability goals by helping to decarbonise their manufacturing operations. Reducing
Scope 1 emissions, particularly from manufacturing processes, will be critical in meeting net zero
goals and this is a great example of a project which will support that.”

In 2020, Croda announced its ambition to become Climate, Land and People Positive by 2030. As a
“Race to Zero” partner and a signatory to the UN Business Ambition for 1.5° C, the company has
committed to being a net zero organisation by 2050, committing to achieve interim 2030 1.5°C
Science Based Targets.
