Devon Tree Services prunes emissions with help of future Net Zero Standard

Planning to decarbonise can initially prove quite intimidating, but viable options soon appear when you're working with the right partners.

That was the view offered by Simon Putt, Director of Devon Tree Services, who spoke to us about how his business enlisted the help of Balanced Energy to help kickstart its net zero journey.

Balanced Energy helped Simon work out that 93% of his company's carbon footprint is created by diesel use for transport and equipped him with the future Net Zero Standard with CBN Expert, a comprehensive tool that he suggested has given the firm "very good scope to model what needs to be done in coming years".

Simon was keen to emphasise the impact the partnership has had in helping him understand the impact his business was having on the environment.

He said the key trigger to go green was driven by the fact that one of the firm's primary contracts is with Exeter City Council, which has an ambitious plan to be net zero by 2030 - Simon told us he had noticed the subject of net zero coming up more and more when trying to win competitive tenders.

Now that he has knocked 3,000 kilogrammes off the firm's annual carbon footprint by signing a renewable energy contract, he has noticed an improvement in not only his sustainability credentials, but also in terms of competitive advantage.

He said: "It's not something we really could have achieved easily without the help of Balanced Energy."
