FNZ Standard offers something additional to ESOS and SECR

Large companies can get as much value as SMEs, from the FNZ Standard with CBN Expert.

That's the view of Bryan McAlpine, head of environmental at DB Group, who told me the attraction for larger companies was the ability to compile everything in one place.

"The companies that have been really interested so far are the large companies. They've got mandatory schemes like ESOS and SECR which they have to be part of. But what those schemes don't bring them is an accreditation or a standard to support it."

He explained schemes like SECR encourage these organisations to track their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. But collating that into one easy to understand data set is what the Standard helps with.

"The platform allows you to track that performance and  keep it in one location, so they can see that at any time and that's been really key. They found that of real interest."

Bryan also admits going through the process themselves has helped DB Group immensely.

He added: "Doing it ourselves has helped us speak to our clients about how that will strengthen their business as well. How do we start the process to net zero and where does our carbon come from?

"It's a great starting foundation at looking at your carbon and understanding where it's coming from. It's been really critical for us."
