Ocado Zoom turns to electric and pedal power for grocery deliveries

Ocado Zoom, the rapid grocery delivery service owned by Ocado Retail, has launched a trial of electric and pedal-powered vehicles at its flagship site in West London.

The vehicles include electric refrigerated vans, refrigerated electric-assisted vehicles (EAVs) and pedal-powered cargo bikes that can travel up to 40 miles.

The trial in Acton is expected to help save between 7.7kg and 9.6kg of emissions per vehicle per day.

The trial is part of Ocado Retail's – which is a joint venture between Ocado Group and Marks & Spencer – ambition to become net zero by 2035.

The company has also made a commitment to plant 100,000 trees and develop a detailed roadmap for carbon reduction.

We're committed to reducing our carbon footprint and being the best neighbour we can, whilst delivering groceries to our customers as fast as possible. This trial is an important step in what I hope will be a rapid expansion of our non-emitting fleet.”
