Nutella launches reusable jar pilot scheme in Paris to tackle waste

Ferrero's brand of hazelnut spread Nutella has launched a reusable jar pilot scheme in Paris to tackle waste and help the company reach its circularity goals.

Nutella has joined forces with the reuse platform Loop and Carrefour for the reuse initiative.

Through the new scheme, shoppers will be able to purchase a specially designed reusable Nutella jar from the ten pilot stores and the Carrefour website for which they pay a deposit. Carrefour will then collect the empty jars for washing and reuse.

Ferrero’s team worked with Loop’s experts to develop the new pilot Nutella jar, which meets all the needed criteria for reuse.

Through this pilot scheme, the company aims to test the reuse model and evaluate its benefits from a consumer perspective.

Fabio Mora, Global Packaging Director of the Ferrero Group, said: “We are continuing to make good progress on our journey to make 100% of our packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025."
