‘The future Net Zero Standard not only helps you decarbonise, it comes with all-important accreditation’

The future Net Zero Standard not only helps you decarbonise, it comes with an all-important accreditation.

That's the verdict from Bryan McAlpine, Head of DB Environmental at energy consultancy DB Group.

DB Group works to help its clients save energy and money, predominantly by procuring contracts for them and Mr McAlpine told future Net Zero it strives to help businesses become more efficient in the way they use energy, through three main areas - innovation, education and communication.

After using the tool himself, he said: "How we see the future Net Zero Standard working for us is that we work with lots of our clients looking at Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR), energy savings opportunity scheme (ESOS), all these different governmental schemes, but actually none of them give you accreditation.

"What's really useful with this is that we can use it now just for your large companies, they're already producing these figures, but for the small companies that don't necessarily bring together their gas, their transport, their different ways of travel, it can actually give them their carbon emissions and look at ways to help them reduce that."

Mr McAlpine told future Net Zero the tool was really easy to use and was impressed that it took only an hour to set up before it was giving him insights into the business.

Using the tool, he realised that his company's gas usage was three times as high as electricity use was - he said: "Looking at that gives me something to focus on now, and see, right, we need to look at our gas consumption."

"It's user-friendly, it's easy to navigate your way around, it's an accreditation so it's giving you something back."
