Audi unveils blueprint for making its car plants carbon-neutral by 2025

Audi has unveiled its blueprint for making all of its car manufacturing plants carbon-neutral by 2025.

The German manufacturer will deploy a range of measures to achieve climate-neutral production, including installing a 107,000 square metre-photovoltaic system, supplying heat using renewable energies covered by certificates for biogas, and compensating for unavoidable emissions through supporting certified carbon credit projects.

Audi, which produced 1.8 million cars at its factories in 2019, said it is also working on recycling aluminium to be used in new vehicles and engaging with partners and suppliers to ensure they also commit to carbon-neutrality.

Peter Kössler, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Production, said: "By achieving carbon-neutrality for our production sites and consistently carrying this aspiration into our supply chain, we ensure that our automobiles reach the customer with a smaller carbon footprint."

Earlier this year, the firm committed to reach net zero by 2050.
