The future Net Zero Standard is the perfect place to start for any business looking to reduce its environmental footprint.

That's the suggestion from Dominic O'Brien, Managing Director of Experienced Energy Solutions, who told future Net Zero about his experience of helping business clients identify their energy use and work towards decarbonisation.

Experienced Energy Solutions challenges its customers to be more sustainable through a consultancy-based approach and works to help them save money and reduce emissions.

The Managing Director told future Net Zero the industry is headed in the direction of becoming more sustainable and environmentally-friendly and highlighted that reducing energy use is a vital part of that process.

Using his hometown of Birmingham as an example, he said: "We have a target to become net zero by 2030, that's just ten years away. If we're pushing customers just in terms of getting the cheapest energy year-on-year, that's not sustainable.

"They have to be in a position where they're actively doing things to be more sustainable, one to hit those commitment targets for Birmingham but also for the wider UK - as you know we've got commitments the government has set by 2050, which as a nation we need to do more to hit those targets and we have a perfect opportunity in the energy industry to do that.

"We've pledged to help 2,000 businesses get on the road to sustainability in the next three years and the future Net Zero Standard is the perfect platform to help businesses of all sizes get that initial assessment of their carbon footprint, which will help them identify changes and also challenge their supply chain in order to do the same thing - it's really easy to use and a perfect proposition for sustainability."
