Wizz Air launches carbon offsetting scheme for its passengers

Wizz Air has launched a carbon offsetting scheme which will allow its customers to calculate their flight’s carbon footprint and offset it.

The company has introduced a travel footprint calculator that gives insights on the carbon dioxide emissions generated from selected flights and finds verified carbon offset programmes that can be used to help mitigate some of these impacts.

After the payment, travellers will receive a certificate recognising the emissions they have offset.

The airline will initially support two projects - one reforestation project in Uganda and one project in Ecuador that recovers and repurposes landfill methane to produce clean electricity.

Marion Geoffroy, Chief Corporate Officer at Wizz Air, said: “We strive to be the greenest airline of choice as we work hard on continuously decreasing our environmental footprint.

"Through a wide range of sustainability initiatives, we are proud to already have one of the lowest emission rates in the European aviation industry and are delighted to be working with CHOOOSE to provide carbon offsetting to our passengers."
