Solar-powered beer: Sol is brewed with electricity from 100% solar sources

Heineken has announced Sol, one of its beer brands, is now brewed using electricity from 100% solar sources.

That was made possible with the installation of 9,212 solar panels at the Zoeterwoude brewery in the Netherlands, which not only powers beer production but also generates enough surplus power to supply around 300 homes - this surplus energy is injected into the local grid.

Diederik Vos, Sol Global Brand Director at Heineken, said: “As the brand’s name suggests, Sol is all about the sun and aims to inspire people to connect to the positive energy that comes from it. Brewed with Solar Energy is a great way to reinforce our authentic, longstanding connection to the sun, while taking care of the planet and its people.
