Audi and E.ON switch on ‘Europe’s largest’ solar rooftop system

Audi and E.ON switch on ‘Europe’s largest’ solar rooftop system

Audi and the German utility E.ON have announced the start of operations for what claims to be 'Europe's largest' rooftop photovoltaic system.

The project, which is installed on the roofs of two logistics centres at Audi's Hungarian factory in Győr, consists of 35,000 solar modules.

The system, which takes up an area of around 160,000 square metres, has a peak output of 12MW.

Peter Kössler, Member of the Board of Management for Audi Production, said: "Our goal is clear, by 2025, all Audi sites should be carbon-neutral financially.

"By converting our factories to renewable energies, we are making an important contribution to climate protection."

E.ON Board Member Karsten Wildberger commented: "This project represents in many ways what’s needed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To do so, we need to rebuild the energy systems in urban areas and in the industry toward carbon-neutral systems."
