Energy giant Total has sealed a new agreement with Spanish developer Ignis to develop 3.3GW of solar projects with the ambition to power the operations of all its industrial sites in Europe with renewables by 2025.
The company says it will achieve this goal by purchasing nearly 6TWh of green electricity every year, generated by its Spanish solar sites through a power purchase agreement covering more than 3GW of solar farms.
This deal claims to be the largest corporate PPA in the world and follows two agreements signed in February 2020 with energy companies to develop nearly 2GW of solar projects
Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of Total, said: "This decision to invest massively in renewable electricity capacity to supply all our industrial operations in Europe with green energy is concrete proof of our decision to move towards decarbonising our European operations in line with our new climate ambition."
