UK council ditches paper bin calendars to reduce waste

East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) has decided to stop sending paper bin calendars out to households in a bid to reduce carbon, limit waste and further support its net zero targets.

The paper calendars, which were sent to every home each year to tell them when bin collections would take place, will be replaced with an online version.

The local authority estimates that this initiative will save around 325 kilograms of carbon every year by reducing paper usage and the fuel used for distribution.

Councillor Richard Millard, Leader of EHDC, said: “Our recently launched Climate and Environment Strategy commits us to changing the way we deliver services to protect the environment for future generations.

"This is just a small change that will make a difference.”
