Boeing to build Apache helicopters with energy from new solar power agreement

US aerospace company Boeing has signed a power purchase agreement with the utility Salt River Project (SPR) to cover a quarter of the electricity needs at its Mesa site in Arizona with solar power.

The renewable energy will come from a new 100MW solar plant, which will be built 50 miles from Boeing’s Mesa site.

The Mesa site produces Apache helicopters and houses various corporate, commercial and defence teams in more than 40 buildings.

The 15-year solar power deal will support the company’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2025.

Jim Pratt, SRP Associate General Manager and Chief Customer Executive, said: "Boeing’s longstanding vision of improving the environment and reducing carbon emissions is a natural fit for the SRP Sustainable Energy Offering."
