techUK, the Solar Trade Association and Renewable UK launch net zero partnership

techUK, the Solar Trade Association (STA) and Renewable UK have launched a new partnership to help accelerate the shift to a net zero economy and energy system.

The new deal is intended to directly connect energy buyers with renewable energy providers to stimulate the power purchase agreement (PPA) market, which the organisations say "can underpin the decarbonisation of the UK power sector".

The STA and Renewable UK will encourage their members to get more closely involved with technology firms to increasingly integrate smart systems into the growth of the renewable and energy storage industries, as well as into residential buildings.

The partnership will also explore how the renewable energy sector could use technologies such as AI, machine learning and the Internet of Things (IoT) to further its own goals, streamline its processes and expand.

Julian David, CEO techUK said: “The technology sector is already the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the world.

"We are committed to working with the UK’s renewable sector not only to bring more new renewables onto the grid as part of our own efforts to decarbonise our operations, but also to support companies in the sector in understanding how emerging technology can support their businesses.”
