Aldi to launch own-brand cleaning liquid refills to save up to 550 tonnes of plastic every year

Aldi to launch own-brand cleaning liquid refills to save up to 550 tonnes of plastic every year

Aldi has announced it will launch its own-brand concentrated cleaning liquid products able to refill spray bottles up to four times.

The move is predicted to save around 550 tonnes of single-use plastic every year.

Each one of the products will allow customers to easily mix their concentrate with tap water to create four bottles of cleaning spray, reducing the need to buy single-use spray bottles each time.

Both the bottle and concentrate refill bottles will be fully recyclable.

The products, which will include window, shower, kitchen and bathroom concentrates, will be available from 24th September and will be priced at £1.99.

Luke Peech, Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility at Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “At Aldi, we’re always looking at new ways to reduce waste and especially to remove and replace any unnecessary, single-use plastic.

“Our new concentrated refills will do just that. And, even if only half of our customers opt for them, it will take more than 250 lorries off our roads every year.”

Aldi has pledged to have all own-label packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2022 and aims to halve the amount of plastic packaging it sells by 2025.
