ENGIE to help UK fruit producer become ‘carbon-negative’

UK fruit producer Bardsley England has partnered with ENGIE to achieve 'carbon-negative' operations.

The partnership will see the companies work together on a roadmap that will allow the fruit producer to become a carbon-negative supplier of high-quality produce.

This plan will prioritise the reduction of emissions and the increase in carbon sequestration.

The first step of the collaboration will identify all emissions generated by Bardsley England, which packs around 37,000 tonnes of fruit and produces up to 23,000 tonnes every year from its 24 sites and 820 hectares of land across the Kent countryside.

ENGIE will review all business operations and will assist in finding solutions that will help the firm to achieve its goals.

Ben Bardsley of Bardsley England noted: “Our ultimate objective is to reach a point where our produce is not just carbon-zero, but carbon-negative. This is a long-term strategy that requires meticulous attention to detail at every level and we are confident that ENGIE is the right partner for this mission.”

Matt Dracup, Energy Services Director at ENGIE UK added: “This is an ambitious programme and we are both proud and excited to be playing a key role in it.”
