Australian online travel agent introduces carbon offset programme for its customers

Australian online travel agent Webjet has launched a carbon offset programme which allows customers to take action on climate change by offsetting emissions from their flight when booking.

With the 'Sustainable Traveller' programme, customers will be offered the option to make a contribution to verified environmental projects while purchasing their tickets.

These contributions will support projects which protect ancient rainforests in Peru, strengthen renewable energy work in Asia and fund smoke-free kitchens through the distribution of efficient cookstoves in Malawi.

Webjet CEO David Galt said: "Customers are increasingly demanding more sustainable travel options, and through 'Sustainable Traveller' we now offer Webjet customers the ability to contribute to efforts that work to balance out the carbon footprint of their travels.

"As an online business, our impact on the environment is relatively limited, but we have a responsibility to promote sustainable travel where possible and help protect the destinations, landscapes and habitats our customers love to visit.”
