SoulRiders arrive in Glasgow – and they come on e-bikes

Scotland is now home to its 'first-ever' integrated e-cargo bike delivery and food waste service, called SoulRiders.

The new e-bikes have been awarded £140,615 from SP Energy Networks’ Green Economy Fund and are aimed to help reduce traffic and pollution issues in Glasgow and accelerate the city's journey towards net zero.

As well as providing sustainable urban logistics for businesses, SoulRiders will also work with food sharing schemes to deliver food to some of the city’s most vulnerable communities, as well as to support the elderly, isolated and vulnerable with essential supplies during the coronavirus pandemic.

Alison Thewliss, MP for Glasgow Central, said: “I am delighted to see further funding coming to Glasgow from SP Energy Networks’ Green Economy Fund for the e-cargo bikes. This exciting project will see local organisation SoulRiders take delivery of a number of e-cargo bikes, providing an innovative and clean method of transporting and distributing goods.

“These types of creative solutions are essential as our towns and cities work towards climate change targets and for improving air quality and the general wellbeing of our communities”.

The e-cargo bikes are being funded as part SP Energy Networks’ £20 million Green Economy Fund.
