Falkirk Council launches ‘Scotland’s largest EV charging station’

Falkirk Council launches ‘Scotland’s largest EV charging station’

A  £1.4 million electric vehicle (EV) charging station, which claims to be 'Scotland's largest', has opened at the Falkirk Stadium.

The facility, which was officially opened by Michael Matheson, Member of the Scottish Parliament and Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, features enough capacity for 26 EVs.

Falkirk Council says that is 30% more than the second-largest EV station in Scotland.

The new EV station is estimated to generate more than 30% of the required electricity from a solar system made up of 1,272 panels, covering an area of more than 2,000 square metres and saving 75 tonnes of carbon every year.

The new facility also brings the number of EV charging points in the Falkirk and Grangemouth area to 68, an increase of almost 70%.

Funding for the new project has come from Falkirk Council and the Scottish Government and the European Regional Development Fund through Transport Scotland’s Low Carbon Travel and Transport Challenge Fund.

Mr Matheson said:  “By delivering the largest EV charging hub in Scotland, Falkirk Council have demonstrated their commitment to Scotland’s net zero vision.

"This hub entirely supports the Scottish Government’s bold ambition to phase out the need for new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2032."
