Envision Virgin Racing team drives carbon-neutrality in Formula E

Envision Virgin Racing team has been awarded a carbon-neutral status, becoming the 'first team in the series' to win this certification.

The team has been certified by the independent organisation Carbon Trust with its PAS 2060 carbon neutrality achievement, which covers the team’s operational facilities in Silverstone and London, as well as its races and business travel for up to 40 people on its staff.

In recent years, Envision Virgin Racing has adopted several measures as part of its sustainability strategy, including 100% use of renewable energy, installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging points at its Silverstone headquarters and a bike-to-work scheme for its staff.

The motorsport team, which is also currently recycling 69% of its total waste, has also committed to joining events without using single-use plastics and avoiding the consumption of red meat.

Jennifer Babington, Operations Director at Envision Virgin Racing, said: "We’ve long been regarded as more than just a race team, using our platform to raise awareness of climate change, but we wanted to practice what we preached, as well as to show and call upon other teams to follow suit and prove how sport and sustainability can co-exist."

In December 2017, the team launched with the Virgin Group and the non-profit organisation Rocky Mountain Institute the 'Race Against Climate Change' initiative with the aim to accelerate the energy transition.
