Siemens commissioned to develop carbon-neutrality roadmap for the University of Hull

Siemens commissioned to develop carbon-neutrality roadmap for the University of Hull

The University of Hull in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, has partnered with Siemens to create a detailed roadmap, which will enable it to reach carbon-neutrality by 2027.

The infrastructure-related section of the masterplan will be completed in three phases.

The first phase, which is named ‘reduce,’ will see Siemens conduct a detailed examination of the university’s current campus and energy consumption.

During the second 'produce' phase, Siemens will work closely with the university to see how renewables can be implemented to provide a green electricity alternative to cut carbon emissions.

The third phase aims to transform the university’s campus into a 'living laboratory', a place which will give the opportunity to researchers and students to trial innovative technologies.

Stephen Dale, Director of Estates and Facilities at the University of Hull, said: “The masterplan will highlight both changes we can make to our existing operations on campus, to drive down carbon emissions, as well as some significant infrastructure projects to help us reach our ambitious goal."

Simon Burgess, Renewable Energy Project Developer at Siemens, commented: “We were delighted to see the University’s commitment to becoming carbon-neutral by 2027. Hull will be one of the first universities in the world to achieve this."
