Bank of the West launches first bank account designed for climate action

Bank of the West, a subsidiary of BNP Paribas, has launched its first checking account designed for climate action.

The bank will donate, without any cost for customers, 1% of revenue from the account to Protect Our Winters, which strives to turn outdoor enthusiasts into climate advocates.

This is possible through a collaboration with environmental non-profit partner 1% for the Planet.

The new bank account also features a carbon tracking tool, which allows customers to view the carbon impact of every purchase made with their debit card.

The debit card for the account is also made from 100% biodegradable and compostable plastic.

Ben Stuart, Chief Marketing Officer at Bank of the West, said: "The 1% for the planet account allows consumers not only to bank with a group that is progressive on energy policy and is striving to meet the demands of the Paris Accord, but also that donates 1% of the account’s revenue to address climate change at no cost to the consumer."
