Canadian airline receives its new Airbus jet with carbon-neutral flight

Canadian airline Air Transat has received its new Airbus jet with a carbon-neutral flight from Hamburg to Montreal.

The jet was fuelled by a kerosene blend containing 10% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a first for the Canadian carrier.

The company made it carbon-neutral by purchasing carbon credits for the remaining fossil fuel portion.

Jean-François Lemay, President and General Manager at Air Transat, commented: "This initiative is part of our commitment to reducing our own carbon footprint while contributing to the achievement of the airline industry’s ambitious decarbonisation targets.”

Produced by the renewable fuels company Neste and supplied by the aviation division of BP, AirBP, the SAF for the flight was certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification system and meets the sustainability requirements of the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive.
