adi Group and Onsite Energy Projects team up on £8m project to help carmaker slash emissions

adi Group and Onsite Energy Projects are to collaborate on an £8 million project to slash the carbon footprint and energy spend of a Merseyside automotive manufacturer, while involving no capital expenditure on its part.

The multidisciplinary engineering business and the energy solutions provider say the project, which will involve a self-contained carbon-neutral combined heat and power (CHP) plant being set up at the facility, will form a blueprint for manufacturing businesses across all UK sectors to make significant cost and sustainability upgrades to their operations.

The businesses say the deployment of CHP technology will enable the unnamed manufacturer to use its "full energy potential"  and reduce the amount of power and gas it uses, as well as replacing its other consumption with more affordable power generated at the site.

They note heat captured by CHP can be used in a wide range of industrial processes, including steam intensive manufacturing, high-temperature furnaces, glass and chemical production, air conditioning and refrigeration down to below 0°C.

James Sopwith, Group Strategic Account Director at adi Group, said of the partnership, “This is an exciting opportunity for so many manufacturers to upgrade their operational resilience, reduce costs and play their part in creating a more sustainable world."
