Dutch bank installs solar film on office buildings to become carbon-neutral

Dutch bank ABN AMRO has launched a project to fit the windows of all its office buildings with solar film in a bid to become carbon-neutral.

This window-based technology is expected to enable the company to achieve its climate targets by reducing its ecological footprint, in addition to drastically cutting the firm's energy bills.

The company worked with the engineering firm Koppes and solar window film producer Umisol to deploy the passive cooling solution, which it suggests is going to turn all its office buildings 'Paris-proof' by 2030.

This refers to the fact the average energy consumption of an office building in the Netherlands currently amounts to 150kWh per square metre - according to the Climate Change Conference in Paris, office energy consumption must not exceed 50kWh per square metre if the targets of the Paris Agreement are to be reached.
