Air France partners with tech company to save fuel and slash carbon

Air France has partnered with airline management software provider OpenAirlines to save fuel and cut carbon.

Under the agreement, OpenAirlines will analyse the data of thousands of daily flights by deploying its eco-flying solution SkyBreathe to identify fuel-saving opportunities, which could shrink the airline's carbon footprint.

The software can analyse billions of data points to identify the most relevant fuel-saving opportunities and provide a series of recommended actions, which can reduce total consumption by up to 5%.

Jean Fernandez, Executive Vice President for flight operations at Air France, said: "Sustainability is a top priority at Air France. And one of our greatest opportunities to reduce aviation's carbon footprint, beyond the modernisation of our fleet, is through implementing more efficient procedures, both onboard and on the ground to make our operations greener."

Air France aims in the next ten years to halve its carbon dioxide emissions per passenger compared to 2005.
