Geminor signs contract to deliver 30,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel to Danish waste operator each year

Danish energy-from-waste operator Amager Resource Centre (ARC) and resource management company Geminor have signed a contract for the delivery of 30,000 tonnes of low carbon refuse-derived fuel (RDF) for energy and heat production in the area surrounding Copenhagen.

The contract will see AMC receive 30,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) each year to run its energy-from-waste incineration plant, which hosts an artificial ski slope on its roof.

The firms say the demand for low fossil contents in a residual waste fuels contract 'has never been stricter' - Country Manager at Geminor in Denmark, Kasper Thomsen, explained: "ARC sets the standard by burning more low fossil carbon dioxide waste fuels in Denmark. This fuel is based on residual waste consisting of waste streams with high biogenic content as wood, paper, cardboard and textiles – but with a limited content of waste plastics.

"Hence, this “green waste” is by definition non-recyclable and classified as RDF – but still a more sustainable option than regular waste fuels."
