ING’s new office commended for sustainability

The Dutch banking and financial services corporation ING, has had its newly opened corporate office in Amsterdam awarded with a 'nearly zero energy building' rating from the 'green building certification' BREEAM.

For nine categories of the certification, the 'Cedar' building, as the headquarters are called, received a total score of 93.7%, reaching 100% rate for energy, transportation and waste.

ING says it plans to make the office energy-neutral by building a solar park under an agreement with the energy company Vattenfall.

The energy produced by the 3,600 solar panels will be for the company, adding to the 2,150 solar panels on Cedar’s roof.

The building is equipped with triple glazing and insulated window frames, which help to save energy.

Various sustainable also measures save up to 12 million litres of water every year and single-use plastic is banished from the restaurants and coffee bars.
