British tea company becomes ‘world’s first’ to join the UN’s carbon-neutral programme

British tea company Birchall has become 'the first in the world' to join the UN’s 'Climate Neutral Now' initiative, which invites organisations to work towards global climate neutrality by addressing their own climate footprint.

The firm has also achieved the Carbon Neutral International Standard, which is obtained by measuring and offsetting the company's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, supporting verified reforestation projects.

Birchall has taken several commitments in the last few months including the construction of the 'UK's first solar-powered tea factory' in Amesbury, Wiltshire, which features a roof-top solar installation of more than 460 solar panels.

Daniel Graham, Managing Director of Birchall, said: "We recognise that climate change is a threat to the livelihoods and wellbeing of everyone on the planet and that we must all take action now.

"That’s why we have worked hard to do our bit, achieve net zero emissions and win One Carbon World Carbon Neutral Gold Standard Status."
