US ridesharing service Lyft commits to 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2030

US ridesharing service Lyft has committed to transitioning all vehicles used by its platform to zero-emission vehicles.

The firm plans to work with non-profit organisation Environmental Defense Fund and other environmental groups to accelerate its commitment - these partnerships will provide incentives and encourage more drivers to electrify their vehicles.

Lyft has also joined the EV100 initiative, a campaign launched by the Climate Group to make electric transport the new normal by 2030.

Last year the firm launched hundreds of EVs onto its platform in Seattle, Atlanta, and Denver and in Colorado and in 2018, the company made all rides carbon-neutral through a carbon offset programme.

John Zimmer, Co-Founder and President of Lyft, said: "Success breeds success and if we do this right, it creates a path for others. If other rideshare and delivery companies, automakers and rental car companies make this shift, it can be the catalyst for transforming transportation as a whole."
