The Australian iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group has announced its plans to reach a net zero operational emissions target by 2040.
The company's climate commitment also includes a 26% reduction in all direct and indirect emissions by 2030.
The firm has previously announced investments of more than $800 million (£637m) in energy infrastructure projects which will increase the use of renewable energy.
Among these projects is a solar gas hybrid plant, which will add 60MW of photovoltaic capacity.
Fortescue Chief Executive Officer, Elizabeth Gaines, commented: “Fortescue has a proud history of setting stretch targets and our 2030 emissions reduction commitment, together with our goal to achieve net zero operational emissions by 2040, positions Fortescue as a leader in addressing the global climate change challenge."
The company says it is also working towards decarbonising its fleet with hydrogen and battery electric solutions.
