Tetra Pak on track to hit 80% renewables target

The multinational food processing and packaging company, Tetra Pak is on track to achieve its goal of 80% renewable electricity.

By 2030, the firm also plans to reach net zero emissions in its operations.

The 'green switch' was supported by the installation of more than 8,000 solar panels of 2.7MW total capacity and the purchase of renewable certificates in Thailand and South Africa.

The firm has also invested more than €16 million (£14.3m) in energy efficiency systems, preventing the energy use from increasing by 23% since 2011.

Lars Holmquist, Executive Vice President Packaging Solutions and Commercial Operations at Tetra Pak, said: "Today, we are once again leading the way by setting ambitious net zero emissions targets that will drive transformation right across our sector and the entire value chain."

Since 1999, the company has been collecting data on its energy use and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) annually.
