Port Houston greens fleet with EVs to tackle emissions

Port Houston has decided to strengthen its commitment to cut its carbon dioxide emissions by adding new electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet and building new charging infrastructure.

The vehicles, which will be charged using three new stations, are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 18 metric tonnes and create an annual saving of $400 (£318) for every new vehicle.

Five Chevy Bolt EVs will be used by several departments of the authority and will also be shared by the employees for business purposes.

The upgrade of the fleet was financed with a $72,438 (£57,680) grant received by the local council.

Trae Camble, Director of Environmental Affairs for Port Houston, said: "Port Houston continues to make greener, environmentally-friendly approaches to our operations as we are committed to being an environmental leader."

In 2019, Port Houston planted also 5,640 trees, as part of its environmental commitment.
