Nottingham offers 50 electric vans for free trial to local businesses

Nottingham City Council has announced it will offer businesses across the region free trials of 50 new electric vans following a £2.69 million government grant.

The scheme will support business owners who are interested in switching from diesel and petrol vehicles to do that without the cost of buying an electric van.

The local authority says it will also help them with the additional expense of setting up charging points at their premises.

The project includes some cars and smaller vans but will mostly be made up of larger vehicles - these will be incorporated into the council's fleet after the initial loan period.

Sally Longford, Deputy Leader of Nottingham City Council and Portfolio Holder for Energy and Environment, said: "I’m proud that we are increasingly held up as an exemplar when the national debate is around climate change and groundbreaking environmental projects.

"Our electric bus fleet and extended tram system have moved Nottingham well ahead of other cities around the country and we are lucky to have them."

The city has committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2028.
