The Arizona-based startup Nikola has invested $30 million (£23m) in hydrogen equipment in a bid to create what claims to be 'the world's first eight-tonne per day hydrogen fuelling stations'.
The 85MW alkaline electrolysers will be installed in five heavy-duty fuelling stations and could produce more than 40,000 kilograms of hydrogen daily.
The manufacturer of battery-electric (BEV) and hydrogen-electric vehicles, energy storage systems and hydrogen fuelling station infrastructure has purchased the equipment from the hydrogen company Nel, which will deliver it from the new electrolyser mega-factory currently under development in Norway.
Trevor Milton, Nikola Corporation’s Founder and Executive Chairman, said: "We are building the largest hydrogen network in the world. These electrolysers will support five heavy-duty hydrogen stations which will cover multiple states and trucking routes. The future of clean transportation is here."
