Hyundai and Kia innovate with EV heat recycling tech

Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have launched an innovative heat pump system that could recycle heat to maximise electric vehicle (EV) efficiency.

The heat pump captures waste heat given off by various sources like the vehicle's electrical components, recycling this energy to heat the cabin more efficiently.

The system uses the heat generated by these components to vaporise refrigerant, a compound used in the refrigeration process, from liquid to gas - high-pressure gas is discharged from the compressor and forced into a condenser to be converted back into a liquid when needed, generating additional heat energy to warm the cabin.

It also minimises battery power consumption and maximises the electric driving range of the car.

With its 'Strategy 2025' plan, Hyundai Motor aims to sell 670,000 battery EVs and fuel cell electric vehicles annually by 2025.
