Oatly goes electric to shrink its transport emissions

Oat milk brand Oatly is to electrify its freight operations with what claims to be 'Sweden's first fleet of electric trucks'.

The Swedish firm has teamed up with freight mobility technology company Einride to transport goods via electric trucks, saving more than 430 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

The 42-tonne heavy goods trucks will cover an average of 200 kilometres every day, transporting Oatly’s goods from production sites in southern Sweden.

The partnership will allow Oatly to lower its carbon footprint by 87%, totalling an average reduction of 107.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year per truck.

Simon Broadbent, Supply Chain Director at Oatly, said: "Switching to electric trucks has a decisive effect on our environmental impact. We are planning for and want to act as a model for the larger global conversion to electric transport.”

Jonas Hernlund, CCO of Einride, added: "By planning transport more accurately, we can drive 24 tonnes of goods an average of 120 kilometres without charging. It is about software optimising and coordinating drivers, vehicles, routes, charging."
