The facility is expected to reach a 960-tonne production of renewable hydrogen by the end of 2024 - cutting the emission of approximately 8,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The project located in Rotterdam, with a power input of 2.6MW and a hydrogen production capacity of 60 kilogrammes per hour, has already landed €6.9 million (£6m) of European Commission funding.
The consortium consists of Neste, the French research organisation CEA, the plant builder Paul Wurth and the cleantech company Sunfire.
