Could a novel protein made from thin air and renewable electricity hold the key to the food insecurity caused by the coronavirus crisis?
The answer is yes, according to Pasi Vainikka, Co-Founder and CEO of Solar Foods who spoke to future Net Zero about the roadmap set out for full-scale production of a carbon-neutral protein made from carbon dioxide and electricity.
He suggests the alternative food is completely disconnected from agriculture and said: "We can incorporate this protein to any food and the consumer would not distinguish the difference with meat or any other food.
"Solein, the protein, is actually 100% more climate-friendly than meat and ten times better than plants."
