Tele2 becomes ‘first carbon-neutral telco in Nordics and Baltics’

Tele2 has declared carbon-neutrality in its operations after shifting to 100% renewable electricity and offsetting all remaining emissions.

The Swedish telecommunications firm claims this makes it the first carbon-neutral business of its kind in the Nordics and the Baltics.

It says its carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by 45,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to the carbon footprint of around 10,000 people.

Anders Nilsson, CEO and President of Tele2, said: "Tele2's services have always enabled smarter and more energy efficient societies, but we should never stop looking for ways to decrease our own carbon footprint."

Petras Masiulis, CEO Baltics at Tele2, said: "Becoming the first climate-neutral telco in our markets is a very important step for us. People tend to forget that our nationwide networks require a significant amount of electricity to uphold broad coverage. I am sure that Tele2's efforts will encourage an increasing demand for sustainable connectivity going forward."
