Birmingham Energy Institute to develop new energy business incubator space

Birmingham Energy Institute to develop new energy business incubator space

The Birmingham Energy Institute has joined hands with Tyseley Energy Park (TEP) to develop a new incubator space to help accelerate business growth amongst low carbon energy firms.

The Birmingham Energy Incubation Hub currently has five industrial units available and by 2021 it will expand to 10 industrial units.

The project will house businesses aiming to bring about transformational change in the production and use of clean energy and heat.

David Terry, Business Engagement Manager for the ATETA project said: “Here at the Birmingham Energy Institute we are particularly excited by this new partnership opportunity. The outreach to business though our Accelerating Thermal Energy Technology Adoption team has identified a demand for incubator and workshop space for early-stage energy sector companies.

“By working with TEP we are able to fulfil that demand and create a lively ecosystem of businesses collaborating with our research activity.”

The firms based at the hub will receive mentoring from the Birmingham University as well as access to research facilities. The businesses will also have access to TEP’s secure and renewable power, sourced from the on-site biomass power station.

David Horsfall, Director for Tyseley Energy Park, added: “At Tyseley Energy Park we are delighted to be able to support businesses and demonstrate new technologies in partnership with the University of Birmingham. The ward of Tyseley and Hay Mills is one of the most deprived areas of Birmingham and this initiative will help to stimulate the growth of jobs and investment and will be a catalyst for regeneration and change.”
