Yorkshire Water commences smart water network pilot

Yorkshire Water has announced multi-stakeholder collaboration to revolutionise water supply and asset repair in the UK.

An extensive smart water network has been launched to reduce leakage and bursts levels in West Sheffield.

By using real-time data, digital water meters, sensors and telecommunication channels, the pilot hopes to provide solutions to reduce wastage of water.

Yorkshire Water Innovation Programme Manager, Sam Bright, said: “Technology has progressed so much over the past few years that we are now able to combine more data streams than ever before and push the boundaries of what is possible using artificial intelligence. It really is an exciting time to be at the forefront of translating these advances into real value for our customers.”

Analysts plan to use a virtual model through data integration to respond to cases of incidents or network faults. Yorkshire Water also plans to deploy machine learning and artificial intelligence to better decision-making and response management.

The 12-month long pilot is a collaborative effort by 15 companies active in the digital water space.
