New shipping tech could strip ‘95% of CO2 emissions from exhaust gases’

New shipping technology could strip 95% of carbon dioxide emissions from exhaust gases.

That's the suggestion from PMW Technology, which says its process works by capturing carbon dioxide from ship engines, without having to change fuels used or install new engine types.

The captured carbon dioxide would be turned to a liquid and delivered to ports for transfer to geological storage.

It says this alternative approach could cut costs 'substantially' while accelerating the transition to low carbon shipping.

For this study, PMW Technology collaborated with the University of Chester, naval design consultancy Houlder Limited and the Tees Valley Combined Authority - it has been awarded funding from the Department for Transport to continue research.
