Paulig named ‘Finland’s most sustainable beverages brand’

Paulig named ‘Finland’s most sustainable beverages brand’

Paulig has won the first position in the beverages category of the Sustainable Brand Index, the largest brand study on sustainable development in Finland.

The survey, which was carried out between November to February, asked more than 58,000 consumers to vote on the green credentials of Finnish businesses.

Paulig has developed a carbon-neutral strategy to reduce its carbon footprint, with all of its roasteries now running on renewable energy.

It also says it is working with energy company Helen to execute a pilot in which waste heat from one of its roasteries will be recovered and reused.

It has also increased the share of renewable materials in its coffee packages, while decreasing the carbon footprint of the packaging by a third.

The company also participated in a circular economy pilot which saw 25,000 empty coffee packages finding new life as recycled design products.

Katariina Aho, who is in charge of Paulig’s sourcing, said: “Sustainability takes actions, continuous cooperation and respect for others. All parties in the value chain must be doing well and receive sufficient financial compensation for their work so that the environment also does well.

"Our goal is a bright and fair world of coffee, and it’s great to see that so many people value sustainable coffee and the work done for it.”
