Toyota and Hino to develop heavy-duty fuel cell truck

Toyota and Hino Motors have announced plans to join forces to develop a heavy-duty fuel cell truck.

The two companies, which have declared carbon dioxide emissions reduction goals by 2050, aim to improve the environmental performance of heavy-duty trucks, which account for about 60% of the total emissions from commercial vehicles in Japan.

The development of the heavy-duty fuel cell truck is taking advantage of the technologies both Toyota and Hino have cultivated - the powertrain is equipped with two Toyota fuel cell stacks that have been newly developed for Toyota's next Mirai and includes vehicle driving controls developed by Hino.

The vehicle's 600-kilometre range means it can offer high standards in both environmental performance and practicality as a commercial vehicle.
